Das Original dieser Straßenbahn gehörte zur Serie 701/735 der portugiesischen Eisenbahngesellschaft Compañia de Carris de Ferro de Lisboa und wurde zwischen 1936 und 1940 gebaut. Diese Straßenbahnen galten als die sichersten von Lissabon, da sie mit einem verstärktem Bremssystem ausgestattet waren. Sie wurden daher auf Strecken mit schwierigem Verlauf eingesetzt, wie zum Beispiel den Linien 12, 25 und 28, auf denen es Steigungen von bis zu 12 % gab. Das Modell galt als die weltweit stärkste Straßenbahn mit einfacher Radhaftung.

Sie war mit fünf Bremstypen ausgestattet: Pneumatikbremse, mechanische Bremse, Elektrobremse, elektromagnetische Bremsung mit Bremsbacken und mechanische Bremsung mit Bremsbacken. Sie war mit zwei leistungsstarken 45-PS-Elektromotoren von Metropolitan Vickers und einem Truck Brill 21-E von Maley & Tauton bestückt.

Die Karosserie des Bausatzmodells entspricht der Standardausführung in Lissabon, die auf dem amerikanische Design von Brill basiert. Besonders charakteristisch ist das starkt gewölbte Dach. Die Straßenbahn war bis zur Einführung eines neuen Modells der Serie zwischen 1985 und 1987 unverändert in Betrieb. Dann wurden die Wagen auf Einpersonenbetrieb (Fahrer/Schaffner in einem) umgestellt, indem Pneumatiktüren und Blinker installiert wurden und die Türen auf einer Seite geschlossen wurden.

Ab 1995 wurden die Wagen nach und nach außer Betrieb genommen und durch Straßenbahnen der Serie 500 ersetzt. Einige wenige alte Wagen werden noch gelegentlich zur Verstärkung im Linienbetrieb eingesetzt oder können für besondere Veranstaltungen gemietet werden.
