Type of product:
Schotterfix is a cold-processable liquid resin dispersion. It dries colorless after application, is UV resistant, and protects materials and accessories outdoors. It contains no natural components and repels dirt and weeds.
Application:
Use Schotterfix as an adhesive for the permanent fixing of loose gravel/ballast along the track. It is durable, UV- and frost-resistant, and suitable for various types of gravel and materials, including Preiser figures, Pola and Piko Vollmer buildings, bridges, walls, tunnel entrances, cars, trucks from Emek, and more.
Features:
Schotterfix is supplied in a workable liquid form and, after water evaporation, dries into a colorless film. It is waterproof, frostproof, and resistant to UV radiation. Schotterfix remains stable in both heat and cold and is suitable for all mineral materials (stones). It can also be used on plastic, metal, wood, and many other materials.
Delivery:
If you order 5 or 10 liters of Schotterfix, we provide 2.5 or 5 liters of concentrate. The ready-to-use Schotterfix (1:1 concentrate mixed with water) contains 50% regular water. We have instructed the manufacturer not to add water to the concentrate.
The advantages:
1. You can use Schotterfix as a concentrate where additional adhesion is needed.
2. The storage lifespan is twice as long.
3. Lower weight results in cheaper shipping options for customers.
Tips and tricks:
Optimal application:
The best results depend on the gravel/material used. How much moisture does the material absorb? Is a 1:1 Schotterfix mixture sufficient, or is a double application of 1:2 better?
Some materials absorb so much liquid that the first application of Schotterfix is largely soaked up. In such cases, applying a 1:2 mixture twice is better. The first layer seals the surface, and the second layer ensures proper bonding.
Adding color:
Using standard dyes for latex products from a DIY store, you can add color accents with Schotterfix, such as rust on rails or moss on gutters.
No need for cleaning:
Use an air hose from an aquarium (2 x 1 meters long). Cut the hose lengthwise and place it over the track rails. Once a section is treated with Schotterfix, slide the hose to the next section. This eliminates the need to clean the rails afterward.
Schotterfix and track switches:
Place the gravel around the switches and apply Schotterfix with a syringe to prevent it from reaching unwanted areas.
Preventing damage to buildings:
Damage to garden railroads and buildings often occurs in winter due to frost, not storms. Water seeps into joints, freezes, and expands, pushing parts apart.
Use Schotterfix on Pola, Piko, and Vollmer houses, buildings, concrete, mortar, brick, and sandstone. Spray horizontal surfaces, let them dry, and repeat. Seal both the interior and exterior seams, and ensure paper curtains are impregnated with Schotterfix. This will make the structure resistant to summer and winter conditions.
Preventing discoloration and rust:
Have Preiser figures turned white after two years? Are model cars rusting? This is caused by UV exposure, frost, and rain.
Dip figures and accessories (such as cars and trees) into Schotterfix. First immersion, let dry, second immersion, let dry, and they’re protected! For some applications, spraying is better than dipping.
Be mindful of the drying position! Do not hang figures upside down to dry, or they might look like gnomes with pointed hats.
Removing Schotterfix:
(Only possible with gravel.) Use a hairdryer. At temperatures above 80°C, the gravel will loosen from the sleepers and rails without causing damage.
Application instructions:
Before application, stir Schotterfix well. Use a watering can or pressure sprayer for even distribution on the gravel bed.
Ensure the surface is evenly moistened beforehand (for gravel, stone, concrete, cement, and sandstone – NOT for plastic or metal).
Important:
Do not apply during rain or when rain is expected!
Do not apply when temperatures are below +5°C (consider night temperatures).
Do not apply when temperatures exceed +25°C.
Minimize mechanical stress on treated surfaces.
Clean tools immediately after use with warm water.
Material consumption:
Approximately 1.0 to 1.5 liters per square meter per centimeter of gravel height.
Storage:
In an unopened container, Schotterfix has a minimum shelf life of 12 months. Store at temperatures above +5°C in a dark place and protect from frost.
